Comparison of bone marrow aspiration and biopsy as diagnostic tool in pediatric age group

Objectives: Bone marrow examination is the final endpoint to diagnosis of many haematological and nonhaematological disorders when all other clinical diagnostic tools have been done with. It consists two tests each which has their own role in making a diagnosis. First bone aspiration second biopsy. They complement together provides complete picture marrow. The study aimed assess accuracy observe degree correlation (kappa value) between procedures. Material Methods: This retrospective was conducted department pathology our institution from July 2021 August 2022. In 149 cases, both BMA BMB performed simultaneously included study. slides stained with Leishman Giemsa stain underwent tissue decalcification processing followed by staining haematoxylin eosin stain. Other special stains such as PAS, Reticulin Perl’s, ZielNeelson (ZN) were also on relevant cases. Data analyzed using Graphpad Instat 3 Prism 5. Results: mean age 8.23±4.37. Of these, Male: Female ratio 1.8:1. most commonly correlated lower group for iron deficiency anemia (100%), Childhood Acute Leukemia (87.2%) higher groups, Chronic myeloid Leukaemia (100%) Myeloid (72.72%).
